An
electric bicycle works like a normal bicycle except it gives you
a 'push' while you ride - especially up those hills! Even unfit
people can keep up with the pack when riding one of these
electric bicycles.
It
works by means of an electric motor located in
the rear hub. This motor is powered by a 36V Lithium
Ion battery. The electric motor is activated when you start
to pedal. And if you do not want to pedal, simply use the throttle on the
handlebar to cruise along.
Our Electra range includes fold-up, mountain, road and
three wheel models. These
Ecycles have more
powerful geared hub motors, better electronics and
bigger battery packs giving more watts per hour than
many of the readily available bikes from Asia. This is an electric bike that performs much better
under South African conditions which our larger stature, further
distances, and rougher terrain demand.
Using
an electric
bicycles as transport is very cost effective. At
current electricity rates they run at approx 50c
per 100kms. Recharging the battery is by means of a
smart charger with three prong plug. If
you
opt to recharge your Ecycle using solar or wind energy the bike will cost even
less to run.
Ideal
for caravanning, students, messengers, lodges and resorts, for deliveries
and for those who work close to home. Now the whole family can enjoy a great
outdoor cycling experience together. No
license is needed to operate an electric bike and by law one
must be 15 years or older to ride on South African
roads.
With
speeds of up to 25km/h one gets around quite fast and you arrive at your
destination without a huff and puff and without breaking a sweat. If the
speed controller is derestricted then higher speeds are possible. Depending
on load and terrain covered one can expect a range of 30-40km distance per battery
charge.
