Do I need a license?

No, you do not. Reasons being that the Ecycles are limited to speeds of 25km/h via the speed controller. They also comply with safety standards and output regulations.

What range can I expect per charge?

Depending on terrain and cyclist weight a distance of 40km can be reached. To test this we took our Easyrider350 and competed in a 30km fun run organised by Leisure Cycle Tours at the Addo Mountain Bike Challenge that was held on 1 Nov 2008. The unfit cyclist starting near the back of the pack completed it successfully and came first none the less among the ladies. A total of 68 ladies and 170 men entered this 30km event on normal bikes and we were placed fourth overall with a respectable
time of 1:13:56sec. We chose to use a lead acid battery and now have the proof that it can be done. Upon completing the race the battery indicator showed there is power and we rode around for a further 10km at the grounds and surrounding area

How fast do these Ecycles go?

Again, depending on weight of the cyclist and terrain being negotiated speeds average between 15km/h to 35km/h and faster. The gears make a variety of speeds possible as the terrain varies from inclines to downhill. Do keep in mind safety should come first just like on an ordinary bicycle. If you do want more speed then we can change some components and settings for higer speed and range. But once the speed is over 35km/h do bear in mind that the  cycle is no longer street legal.

Can anyone ride them?

Yes, providing you are 15 years or older.

Do I need to buy a special charger for the battery?

Each bike comes with its own charger. Different chargers are used for the lead acid or lithium batteries respectively. They cannot be interchanged and the shape of the socket prevents one from making a mistake and thus damaging the battery.

How long is the life span of the battery?

One would get around 500 charges out of the lead acid battery. The life span of the lithium is much longer with approximately 2500 charges. This means the lead acid could last an average of two years and the lithium five years if it is used every day within this period. The life span is in line with frequency of use.

Do rechargable batteries stop charging after a while?

Yes. Re-chargeable battery will self-discharge if left unattended. To maintain the battery life you must charge it every now and then (weekly) when you are not using the bicycle for a while. Rechargeable batteries will stop accepting any charging once the internal circuit board are damaged. Sometimes that will happen if the  battery was not used or charged after a long period of time. So, it is advisable to put the battery on charge even if the bicycle is not being used for a couple of weeks and longer.

Does the battery recharge while I ride?

No, it does not. One would need a much bigger set-up and cycle at an extremely furious pace to accomplish that. Technology is not there yet.

How durable are the ecycles?

The Mountain bike is hi-tensil steel and the shape of the frame is designed to take the punch. All other models have an aliminium alloy frame which is a strong material for its weight. All components are good quality and our cycles compare well with the more expensive models out there. We did not intend to offer a luxury item, but an alternative means of transport within a person’s means. We aim to keep the price as low as possible. These Ecycles are well put together and each one is tested and checked before it leaves the factory. We believe in value for money.

Where would I find spares if I need any?

Spares such as tyres, chains, sprockets, brakes etc can all be obtained from normal bicycle stores and we do have after sales service and parts on any of the electrical components. Should you have bought a Easyrider350 with a lead acid battery and find you would like to change to a lithium battery in future then we can supply you with the necessary bracket and charger to do so.

What comes with the bike?
A lot of fun! Seriously now – depending on model our Ecycles are fitted with front and backlights, reflectors, mudguards, bicycle stand. Some models have a carrier and some models have baskets. Any additional bells and whistles such as a bicycle computer and helmets are left up to the individuals choice
.

How do these bikes compare with others on the market?

Very much on par actually. There are more expensive electric bicycles out there but do not be believe that those are the only bikes to consider.

As with most products there are choices between economical and expensive, and a choice between lots of features and the basic essential features. One often finds that established companies with major overheads have you pay for their name in stead of just the product. On the other hand one has the smaller companies who have the means to offer equally good products at much more economical prices. Ecycles is one of the smaller companies who work in a manner that keep the cost of these bicycles lower for you.

By the way less expensive do not automatically mean "cheap".
